Personal Favorite 2D Platformer Video Games

2D Platforming games are not as popular as they were used to be. The Genre has somewhat become boring in last 5 years. Considering one of the world’s most popular game (Mario) is a 2D Platformer. I know it’s kinda sad to see the genre dying but I would not lose hope because there are still hardcore fans out there. And some developers did make some awesome 2D platformers and today we are counting our favorite of them!

The short length of the campaign and a few overly challenging puzzles are minor blemishes in an overall entertaining and worthwhile experience. Fans of the side-scrolling and platform genres need not look elsewhere, Trine 2 offers a wealth of truly innovative puzzles that are a welcome getaway from the current market of repeated genre titles. – Gaming Nexus
On the whole, the creators of Trine took the safe route in crafting Trine 2. They strayed little from their original concept, resulting in a game that is equally as enjoyable as the first. – Game Over Online
In the end, while the core gameplay remains wholly unchanged from the original (not to mention that expert players can still cheese their way through most areas by abusing the wizard’s crate-creating spells), the stunning visual details and effects do more to enhance the already-robust mechanics then one might expect. – DarkZero

 LittleBigPlanet 2

LittleBigPlanet 2 is a special game that entertains effectively, and does nothing less. Playing together with friends, and enjoying the unrestrained power of man’s creativity is a sight to behold. – PlayStation LifeStyle
The sheer amount of content and improvements more than warrants the price tag and you would be crazy to pass up this delightful package. – ZTGD
Littlebigplanet 2 is a triumph in user generated content that expands the original in ways previously thought to be impossible. – Gamer Limit

If you don’t mind Murphy’s slightly handicapped functionality on ports of Rayman Legends, then the only deciding factors are what bonus costumes you care about, and whether you do or don’t have a PS4. – Gaming Age
With rayman Legends, the PS4 and Xbox One welcome one of the best platform games of the past year, at a very attractive price of 40€. Indeed, this versions is still not as good as the Wii U version that uses the gamepad at it’s full potential, and we can still moan about the fact that this feature hasn’t been used in the PS Vita version. But we have to mention the improved graphics and the enhanced fluidity in those 2014 versions of the game, moreover a few added content is the cherry on top of the cake. If you haven’t already played it, now is the right time to do so. – JeuxActu
The addition to these version are not too relevant, but having such a great game on next-gen should rise no complaints. In case you wonder, Rayman Legends is still great. – Vandal

I was initially pretty skeptical about Braid, and it took me some time to get past the game’s severe melancholy. I eventually found the game’s story and the way it plays against the gameplay to be academically interesting, and the game’s final payoff is terrific, but it’s the ingenuity of the mechanics that makes Braid so engaging. – Giant Bomb
Braid is a rare gem in the gaming world. It combines a wonderful audiovisual presentation, a philosophical story and ingenious puzzle gameplay into a brilliant gaming experience. If one game would deserve it to be called art, Braid would be that one game. –
One of the most innovative games in years, of the highest quality and unique nature, Braid is a game you can’t miss. Already a must have for PC and Xbox 360 users, Braid deserves a space on your Playstation 3 hard drive. – GameFocus
