Popular Video Games Loved By Critics Panned By Fans

A few weeks ago we posted an article that showed the massive difference between critics and fan. We listed down some games that were loved by players and fan but were panned by critics. Today we are doing a bit different by showing games that critics loved but players hated.

Fans – 5.3

Critics – 8.5

This game has incredible environments, but it feels so slow compared to its predecessors. It feels easier to get a SSS by just mashing buttons and switching between the 3 weapons at the end of each button mashing combo. The main character change was the worst thing that made me cringe evrytime a cutscene happened in this game, this new hipster 14 year old Dante is not fun. – Rizenz
No lock on, no taunt button, broken style system, horrible characters, 30 FPS, terrible dialogue, bland enemies, mediocre boss battles and so much more. Yeah the game isn’t Devil May Cry anymore. The combat is vastly inferior compared to its predecessor. – fatal_slash
Between the simplified gameplay, a plot stolen from “They Live” and unimpressive technology it is hard to see how this game has been getting such high scores from “professional” critics. A cynic would guess that they were bribed, or maybe Capcom has applied pressure on the. Who knows.  – AndreasDeMill

Gone Home

Fans – 8.6

Critics – 5.4

I literally created an account just now so I could warn against dropping $20 on this game. And I’m going to leave it spoiler-less so people won’t be inclined to skip it.

I’m seeing a lot of hemming and hawing in this review thread about why “professional” reviewers were going nutso over this game. I think I can boil it down to two things: Nostalgia and Originality. These are great qualities in a game, but this game relies almost entirely on them – dclowd9901

This game was EXTREMELY disappointing, the story is just dumb, and this type of game is all about story. I don’t care for gameplay, i don’t care for enemies or puzzles, i LOVE a good -story only- game (To the Moon being one of my favorite games of all time) But the story of “Gone Home” is flat, the ending is terrible and inconsequential – Alecrast

Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3

Fans – 3.4

Critics – 8.8

Doesn’t quite feel like Modern Warfare anymore. I am a huge fan of Modern Warfare 1 and 2 but dindn’t really like Black Ops, or anything Treyarc has done. This game kinda feels like a Modern Warfare/Black ops hybrid. Its not trerrible but it’s lost that addicting, can’t put the controller down fun. – hackytorque
I usually write long detailed reviews. This won’t be a long review. I am… tired. I am exhausted. People love this game, it sold more than skyrim. That’s the current state of our society. This review I am writing, it’s meaningless – It won’t change anything. Those people who play this game, are far greater in numbers than us. They don’t care about metacritic. What’s the point – whitespider999
…I can’t be arsed to type my utter disgust about how much this game sucks. Oh boy, it’s the same game for the 4th time in a row. Of course, idiotic COD fanboys will fall for it, but not me. This game is nothing but a money printer for Activision. Nothing more. – Sawnik98

Diablo 3

diablo 3

Fans – 8.8

Critics – 4.0

The company took almost every single thing that made the Diablo Series and removed it from the game.

It is now a hollow shell resembling that which Diablo once was – brotha

They completely screwed up the loot system to promote the auction house. Inferno’s difficulty curve is too steep, yet the loot rewards aren’t exciting AT ALL, you just hope you get an item with good rolls, sell it on the auction house to buy stuff on it. And Diablo is all about the loot, it’s the reason why we run higher difficulties. – lothies
Far too linear, far too easy at earlier difficulties, auction house, silly random loot generation (str/int gear?!), weird loot drops (weird mix of attributes, no sense of progression), oversimplifying the game – limited to only 6 buttons to use while the game offers a great deal of fun, if situational abilities, which you will never use as a result – mm12

Assassins Creed III

Fans – 6.9

Critics – 8.5

“Who is responsible for ruining this once great franchise?” I’m going to get right to the point. This game is by far distances the worst in the series, it’s simply not a good game, not only is it a bad AC game, it’s just a bad game, period. – sirthe4th
Alex Hutchinson. I don’t think I need to say more other than he absolutely slaughtered this series and he needs to find a new profession, but I will. He’s made so many poor choices that have turned a once AAAA series into a piece of crap. – AlexJones3
I am gonna get right to the point here. This game is NOT good. It has some redeeming qualities like the graphics and cinematics. But there seems to be a continuing theme for so many AAA titles. They just want so badly to be liked. They put cinematics and set pieces above everything else – kasparov5
