5 Huge Video Games That Completely Failed At Launch

It does not matter how good your game is if the launch is botched or a complete fail. You need a good launch in order to make the game successful. Releasing a game to millions of people is a hard thing and while developers like Rockstar games, Naughty Dog, and many others shine when it comes to launching big titles but there are some that completely failed at the releasing a huge game to millions of players. We are counting down

Dead Island

Oh boy, where do I begin, I was rather excited to play this game as I’m sure most people who watched the trailers were. It’s no secret that a publisher would push an unfinished product out to people in order to meet a deadline, but it seems like it’s trending to the point where games are broken and unplayable for the first week or so of play. This to me is completely unacceptable. – NICESNAG

It’s the mission design that proves most disappointing. Its scale is highly ambitious but Dead Island’s population of living dead aren’t enough to compensate for its barren lack of variety and an increasingly tedious structure. – Thunderbolt
Dead Island is yet another tombstone upon a grave of excessive ambitions. Our condolences to those who fell for that excellent cinematic trailer – it has nothing to do with the actual game. – Absolute Games

 X Rebirth

To top off a growing tower of gripes, navigation around space in Rebirth is an astounding hassle. – GameFront
No matter what happens with stability and bug-fixing patches, its poor controls, awful interface, and dull pacing ensure that X Rebirth will remain unpleasant for all but the most forgiving, die-hard space jockeys. – IGN
X: Rebirth will get better over time, and anyone who’s open-minded enough to look past the ‘X’ branding and see the ‘game’, may even find many hours of entertainment. – GameWatcher

Vanguard: Saga of Heroes

Even though the game has its annoyances (like the steep death penalty you have to endure) it’s a very accomplished title with a lot of rewards for a dedicated player. – Play.tm
If a slower-paced, more complex title in the vein of EverQuest is what you’re looking for, Vanguard will serve you well. A lack of polish in several areas and strong competition keep this game from being particularly special, though. – Game Informer
Your everyday MMORPG with its own unique world and atmosphere. It only has one neat and unique feature called Diplomacy and what it lacks in terms of sound effects, it makes up for in quality writing. – Game Chronicles

World Of Warcraft

Fix your game, Blizzard. Listen to your players, actually cater to the high end, fix bugs that need fixing, and don’t leave your player base hanging for months on end. Then I will give your game a higher mark. – AltGaming
WoW has had a great run these past few years. Although the game is getting stale now, along with games such as Guild Wars 2 and The Old Republic on the horizon, it is still an addicting and fun game, though it is still tedious. It’s hard not to acknowledge how it has perfected the MMORPG genre, it’s now just another MMORPG that is only fun after spending hours on end getting to level 85 to experience the end-game content. – PukPuk

Star Wars Battlefront II

The worst case of monetization for a Full Price AAA game so far. EA’s pay to win forced-down-your-throat game design ruined the creatives’ approach. Not even the best PR in the world could change that. Let’s vote with our wallets! – Chuwi
It is rare to find a game so nefarious that it should be illegal, yet here we are. EA has reached a new low by applying pay-to-win tactics from the greediest gacha games to a full price title. They are trying to see what they can get away with, and I urge everyone within the sound of my voice to not let them get away with this. No matter how much of a Star Wars fan you are, DO NOT GIVE EA ANY MONEY. Giving them money will guarantee this will happen again, and again, and again for all eternity. – kyrsben

Battlefield 4

Campaign is fun but there are major issues with save files corrupting. Many players are having to re-do countless hours of singleplayer due to bugs.

Multiplayer is basically unplayable at the moment as well. – bombslapper

This is the first time i do this, but the bugs in this game are unbearable! The game itself is one of my favourite shooters ever, but it just crashes so often, its unplayable at the moment! Stay away from this crap until it gets fixed! – gernboes
Do NOT buy this game! In it’s current state this game is a mess. Every time I play the campaign the game crashes and corrupts my save. DICE seems to be putting no effort into fixing the issue. When the game works it’s great but MP issues and a broken campaign makes me feel like I’ve been cheated $90 for what I paid for it. – pahlke99
