Nintendo NX Controller Leaks Were Fakes

As many suspected, the Nintendo NX controller images that made the rounds this week were fakes.

Many were skeptical of the first set of images despite similarities to the Nintendo controller patent which turned up in December 2015.

While the first set of “leaked” images were rather sketchy, the second set of photos were crisp and clean. Still, despite the crisp pictures, the purported controller was still considered a rumor due as there was no way to verify the legitimacy of the images.

Now, a video showing how the controller contained in the hi-res images was made has been posted.

The creator of the second “leak”, Frank Sandqvist, said he based his Nintendo NX controller off the first set of images. He said the hoaxer created those by using photoshop.

The video below from Sandqvist shows the process he used to create the fake, and it’s really impressive. He also notes that the thing was very uncomfortable to hold. Then again, his model doesn’t have the two grip portions as the Nintendo controller patent shows.

Whether Nintendo will use this patent with the NX console remains to be seen, as the company has yet to provide any information on the console or its peripherals. Hopefully, we’ll know more in June.

Thanks, Eurogamer.
