Fans of shooter games switching from Xbox One to PlayStation 4
Fans of shooter games, one of the most popular categories in all of gaming, are tending to switch from Xbox to PlayStation this generation. That’s according to PlayStation UK marketing manager Lauren Bradley, who said this is partly why Sony has “high expectations” for Star Wars Battlefront later this month
“This generation, the shooter audience is tending to switch over to PS4,” she said in an interview with MCV. “So we’ve got high expectations for Star Wars Battlefront around both launch and into next year.”
No specific data was provided to back up the assertion.
But Sony’s investment in shooter games is clear. The company has co-marketing and exclusivity deals in place with three huge shooter games in Destiny, Star Wars Battlefront, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. Microsoft and Xbox previously had the Call of Duty DLC exclusivity deal, but it went to Sony this summer.
Microsoft doesn’t sound worried, however. Xbox marketing boss Aaron Greenberg recently said he believes the Xbox One will continue to be where most core shooter fans play this year and beyond.
“If you look at what are the most popular games in the industry; well, today, the number one genre is shooters,” he said. “So if you want to play Halo and Gears of War and Call of Duty and you want to play Battlefront, you’re only going to be able to do that on Xbox One. And so, we feel like we’ll continue to be where more of the core shooter fans continue to play. We’ll continue to be where most of the multiplayer gaming continues to happen.”
