Star Wars Battlefront announces drop zone
A new post on the EA blog reveals Drop Zone will see two teams of eight players compete to capture and control drop pods that fall through the atmosphere onto planet surfaces.
Victory comes should you manage to control five pods simultaneously, or the majority of them after 10-minutes. Should control of a pod constantly change possession, another will be sent down in order to break the stalemate. While we don’t have any gameplay footage as yet, a new screenshot has been released.
EA emphasised that while you’ll want to be close enough to a pod to defend it, you’ll need to be careful not to group up unless you want to fall foul of an orbital strike.
“This goes hand in hand with our design philosophy behind many of the game modes in Star Wars Battlefront,” lead level designer Dennis Brännvall said. “We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn’t really pay off.”
Additionally, pods will open over time to reveal the Power Pickups they contain. The problem is, sticking around to get your hands on these may make you a sitting duck for enemies. Additionally, as the pod opens another will hit the surface elsewhere, and it’s likely your allies will need your help to unlock it. It’s all about balancing risk and reward.
Planets Drop Zone will be available on include Tatooine, Hoth, Sullust, and Endor, with EA also stressing mastery will come from making quick decisions and sensible deploying of Droids and Turrets to defend key points
