We know the release date (and it’s coming this year) and we’ve been given a fantastic overview of the gameplay. We even know some of the key new features coming to the game. Heck, we’ve even got a few story tidbits.
“We know what this game means to everyone,” explained Game Director Todd Howard. “The time and technology have allowed us to be more ambitious than ever. We’ve never been more excited about a game, and we can’t wait to share it.”

FALLOUT 4 RELEASE DATE: When is it coming out?
Bethesda has now officially confirmed the Fallout 4 release date. The game will land on November 11 2015 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
FALLOUT 4 GAMEPLAY: The latest info on the game
The development team actually started designing Fallout 4 right after Fallout 3 in 2009, with Bethesda saying:
“For the last four years we have been working really hard to create something special. And it all starts with an obsession to detail.”
“It’s our belief that all of these small details combine together to make a much, much larger whole.”
Although Bethesda is keeping core details about the Fallout 4 story under wraps, we have found out that the game starts before the bombs fell on a beautiful Saturday morning.
Your nuclear family is existing with the threat of nuclear war hanging over them. As your characters head into the bathroom of their humble abode, you’re taken into a complete character customization sequence. You’ll be able to completely personalize your character, and have the choice whether to play as a man or a woman.
In fact, the game even generates a baby based on the couple you make. And whoever you leave the room as will be the character you control for the remainder of the game.
Mini spoiler alert, though. As the bombs hit, you and your nuclear family head over to their bomb shelter. And they eventually emerge from the Vault 200 years later as the sole survivors of Vault 111.
Fallout 4 offers players what Bethesda is calling “an enormous dynamic world”, where you can go wherever, do whatever and be whatever you want to be.
“Player freedom remains our absolute number one goal”, explained Bethesda.
As with Fallout 3, you will be able to choose between third and first person. As with everything in Fallout 4, it seems everything is down to player choice.
As you will have seen in the Fallout 4 trailer above, you get a dog fairly early in the game and he’ll soon become your best friend. You can give the dog commands by pointing at things in the environment and it’s all contextual. For example, you can ask him to pick things up.
Fallout 4 will also bring back the VATS combat targeting system of Fallout 3, where you can choose to shoot individual body parts for a more direct hit and increased damage.
BRAND NEW PIP BOY EDITION
With the latest entry into the Fallout series you’re also looking at a revamped Pip Boy of course. And this one has a ton of new tricks that you’ll be able to interact with.
Heck you can even play games inside the Pip Boy, just in case you tire of looking at all your stats. There’s Fallout 4 homage to Donkey Kong too.
For those of you who are interested, there’s a real life Pip Boy you can get when you pre-order the limited edition Pip Boy version of the game. You can put your smartphone inside the Pip Boy and utilize a brand new companion app that puts the Fallout 4 Pip Boy experience on your wrist.
The app will be available as a second screen experience for Android and iOS even if you don’t fork out for the Limited Edition version of the game.
WORLD AND WEOPEN CUSTOMIZATION
Although crafting has always been a main component of the Fallout series, Fallout 4 is taking this to whole new level. Now, you can scrap all items in the world for materials, whether that be screws, glue or other components. This allows you to rebuild the world as you choose.
“This is about making your own experience —making yourself a place you’d want to live in for you and your best friend of course.”
That’s right, you can build your own home and settlements in Fallout 4 and make an attempt to rebuild the entire of Boston if you so wish.
All the building happens in real-time dynamically, and as you build your settlement, traders will start arriving to populate it. These traders can offer unique and useful items that make it beneficial to start creating your wasteland empire.
Of course, you’ll need to put in some of the infrastructure though — such as power grids. You’ll need these to start generating defenses for your settlement as your town can and will get attacked by raiders.
This brand new crafting system extends to other areas of the game as well, especially to the new weapons.
Fallout 4 features over 50 base weapons and there are over 700 modifications for those weapons in-game. There are brand new weapon types like modified baseball bats and jetpacks too.
Basically you’re going to want to pick up as much as you can because it’s all going to be useful for enhancing your gear. You can even modify your own power armor.
THE DOG CANNOT DIE
Don’t worry game fans; Bethesda has confirmed that the dog cannot die in Fallout 4. Let’s just hope the same can be said for the cute gryphon in The Last of Us and we can all sleep easy that we won’t be crying over our controllers anytime soon (hopefully).
Here’s who is playing the protagonists
Bethesda has also revealed the two voice actors responsible for giving the male and female protagonists a voice.
Fallout 4’s lead designer and writer, Emil Pagliarulo, tweeted a picture of Courtenay Taylor and Brian T. Delaney, who are the female and male heroes respectively.
You’ll probably recognize Taylor’s voice from Jack in the Mass Effect games, and she also voiced Juhani in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. She was also behind the voices of Gloria Van Graff, Janet and Jas Wilkins in Fallout: New Vegas.
Delaney is a little less well known, but he will be voicing some of the characters in the upcoming Halo 5: Guardians.
FALLOUT 4 SETTINGS – Where will it be set?
It’s been confirmed that Fallout 4 will be set in Boston, just as the rumours suggested.
We – along with the fans en masse – have been through the trailer frame by frame and spotted a few recognizable Boston landmarks just to make sure. Check them out below:
